🇺🇸 501(c)(4) Social Welfare Organization — New York

Civic investment, spent where the votes are cast.

Civestor Advocacy is the lobbying arm built to move specific bills through the New York State Legislature — starting with the fight to bring ranked-choice voting to every voter in the state.

Bienvenidos a Civestor Advocacy. Soy Dan Devine.

Civestors civest. ¡Sé uno! Gracias por estar aquí.

What We're Lobbying For

The Agenda

County Issues

Long Island
  • C1

Term limits for Nassau County legislators

Nassau’s 19 legislators can serve without limit, while Suffolk has capped its legislators at 12 years since 1993. We’re asking the Nassau County Legislature to set a ten-year limit and let the voters approve it.

  • C2

Let the East End decide on Peconic County

In 1996, voters in Suffolk’s five East End towns backed forming their own county, 71 to 29 percent. It never became law. We’re asking the State to fund an updated study and give East End voters a binding say.

  • C3

    Too many governments? Nassau’s options

Nassau has 56 school districts, 64 villages and dozens of special districts. Should some of them be combined? We lay out five options, from keeping things as they are to a county-wide city charter, with the evidence on both sides, and we want to hear from residents.

Current Campaign

2026 — In Motion
Priority Campaign

Ranked-Choice Voting for New York

New York City has used ranked-choice voting in primaries and special elections since 2021. Our campaign is building the case — and the coalition — to bring it to state legislative races too, through Assembly bill A90, and by pushing to revive A4351, the 2023–24 bill that would have covered general and special elections as well.

We're building a Long Island coalition alongside statewide partners like Ranked Choice Voting Albany and Unite NY, meeting directly with state legislators, and making the public case for a voting system where every voter's voice counts.

How We Work

Method
Direct Lobbying

Meetings & testimony

Sitting down with state legislators, testifying at committee hearings, and drafting the case for the bills we back.

Coalition Building

Shared ground, shared pressure

Partnering with existing reform groups across New York rather than duplicating what's already working.

Public Accountability

Scorecards & records

Tracking where elected officials stand on our agenda, and making that record public and easy to find.

About Civestor Advocacy

Structure

Civestor Advocacy is a New York not-for-profit corporation organized for social welfare purposes under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Unlike a charitable 501(c)(3), we're built specifically to lobby — to engage legislators directly, without limit, in pursuit of the civic reforms above.

The name draws on the Civestor framework — the idea that active citizenship is a form of investment in the health of a democracy. Where Civestor the book made the case, Civestor Advocacy is where that case gets carried into the Capitol.

Part of a Larger Effort

Civestor Advocacy is the lobbying affiliate of American Civic Power, a nonpartisan civic education organization. The two are separate legal entities with independent governance and finances.
